Chris Wilson NDP for LGTIRL

Trudy Scott, President of CUPE Local 4154 met with Chris Wilson NDP candidate for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands-Rideau Lakes to discuss publicly funded education. Chris heard and understood the many challenges CUPE Education Workers face daily. Chris’s personal story is one everyone should hear; he understands the struggles Ontarians are currently facing. Chris is pictured here signing the candidate pledge supporting publicly funded and publicly delivered education.
Trudy reports, “Chris certainly impressed me with his story, his shared values, willingness to listen and his commitment to take on challenges, he has certainly earned my vote.”

@osbcucscso
Hey #OntEd peeps that are in schools right now.We have zero confidence in Lecce’s statement that there is a HEPA in each school. Please take a look in your school. How many classes vs HEPA units? Can you snap a photo of a room without? Send the data memberorganizing@osbcu.ca
OSBCU – CSCSO
We heard a lot of mullarky yesterday out of Lecce and Moore – we are still digesting it and will be addressing our concerns with the Crown and Council of Trustees Association this afternoon.
In the meantime we need your help – you are in the schools and you know what is going on. Can you help us by letting us know how many HEPA units are in your school and how many classrooms you have. If you can snap a picture of a classroom without that would be awesome…. please send the data and any pictures to memberorganizing@osbcu.ca we will ensure that there is no indicators of your school or board.
Feel free to use the pic as your profile pic too!

Mobilization!!! Need Help!!!!

We are looking for members who would be interested in joining the mobilization team as we move forward to the next round of bargaining and the provincial election. Members can participate in the following ways:

  • Join the mobilization committee – virtual meetings are once to possibly twice per month, planning for events with Local 5678 and Local 4155.
  • Join our local’s mobilization team – virtual meetings once per month, planning for our local’s presence at planned events.
  • Provide information on events in your communities that would be a great venue for us to attend to highlight our roles, continuing the education of the community to ensure everyone knows there are more than teachers in education.
  • If you have ideas on how to highlight our roles, plan for events etc. and would just like to share that information please email me.

It is vital that we have members input from all areas of the board as we cover such a large geographical area. Please consider joining us in this mobilization movement as the time for us to act is now, if we wait until we are in bargaining, we will be too late. The union is our collective voices together sharing who we are and the crucial role we all play as Education Workers in Education.

The time is now!! Please email me if you are interested in helping, all input and assistance is greatly appreciated.

Take care,

Trudy Scott

We have now sent 4 emails inquiring to the written guidance for school boards pertaining to Ford’s announcement. We have received nothing. We have been told by the Deputy Ministry that nothing has been sent out. We are beyond frustrated and have clearly communicated that this is unfair to all of us. Stay tuned.

Message from our President

Hello Members,
The memos from the board regarding the new directives announced by the government are being sent to members via your work email.
The specialized classrooms are not expected to start up until Monday, administration is gathering info and the special education department is making the arrangements. Hopefully with this delay the N95 masks will be available, they were shipped yesterday so praying they are in before the end of the week for distribution. We have also asked that rapid tests be available to the special education staff who will be returning to work next week, we do not have an answer yet we will communicate when we do.
Afternoon custodial staff will continue working afternoons, the board is concerned about increasing numbers and is wanting to keep things status quo as this is a timed shut down. We were able to get a commitment to look at it again if the shut down is extended.
The board does not have the memo from the government confirming in writing what was verbally shared in the conference call, this may have an impact if there are changes when the memo arrives.
If you have specific concerns please speak with your administration or supervisor, if you are not able to come to a resolution, please let us know. We will continue to have ongoing meetings with the board regarding concerns as we move forward.
Thank you for your continued professionalism in these very challenging and unprecedented times.
OSBCU has not been able to get any information from the government at the time of this email, as our practice if we receive any information, we will send it out.
Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Praying all of you remain safe,
Trudy Scott

OSBCU…announcement!!

We are watching the announcement as it is happening.
We are awaiting official documentation but what we know is that schools will be closed to in person learning for two weeks. Special education will continue in person. Emergency childcare will be available for free for education workers who are required to be onsite.
We have so many questions as we’re sure you do as well. Once we have info we will share.
